DIY Vintage BOO Sign

I just had a wonderful weekend.  This was the Red River Rivalry weekend here in Dallas and I don't want to share too much, because I am working on another post.  If you don't know why my weekend was so wonderful go look up the score.  Oklahoma domination.

I am loving my new BOO sign!  I had seen a Christmas sign similar to this one, and thought it would be a perfect fit on my skinny wall.  I am so happy with it I plan on making a Christmas one too.  Hmm maybe I should add it to my Thanksgiving break project to do list... Anyway, all you will need for this project is:

  • Piece of wood {cut to whatever size you need}
  • Black paint
  • White paint
  • B & O letters
  • Pencil
  • Small and large paint brush
  • Sander {or sand paper}
  • Picture hanger
  • Hot Chocolate {optional}

1. Make sure your piece of wood is nice and clean {I stole borrowed took this from my parents garage}.

2.  Paint your piece of wood with 2 coats of black paint {I just used craft paint}.

3.  Using your printer, print the letters B & O as big as possible.  Once you letters are printed you can assess if you need to make them bigger.  If you need to make them bigger you can just put the printed letter under tissue paper, and trace it bigger.  I know this might be challenging for some of us {including me}, but it really isn't to bad... Cut the letters out, and arrange them on your board.  Trace the letters.

4.  Using a smaller paint brush outline the edges of your letters then fill them in with the bigger brush.  I did two coats.

5.  Once the paint is dry run your sander {or sand paper} over the sign until you get the look you want.

6.  Attach the picture hanger to the back, and hang your sign!

Time for me to go make my favorite Tomato Soup, and admire my sign more! :) Have a great week!
